When You Have Time © Copyright George Papavgeris, December 2001 Rushing through the day as if your life depended on it So many things to do A whole career in front of you And you don't have a minute and you cannot give a toss For things that do not matter The whole world is not yours to fix, of course. But remember when you left to make your own way in the world Who was that had made you ready? Did you ever give thanks to your Mum and Dad for that Did you call enough, did you drop a line Did you visit them from time to time? Did you have a schoolmate that was closer than the others Did you keep in touch? Or did you find all that too much? Did you have a drink together to each other's health? Did you spend an hour Talking of the times you had back then? When you left your job and made your move on to better things Did you close that book behind you? Did you bother on a Friday night to meet your old colleagues Did you buy a round, did you tell a joke, Or was your time too precious for such things? How long will you wait before you notice life around you? So take her for a walk And help the kids with homework Or just listen to a bird or even learn to sing a song Play with the dog Read a book, go skating on a pond. How much more time before you take the time to make the time? Do you think you're here forever? How will you be remembered by those you 'll leave behind? So help someone in need, prepare for those to come And remember to be thankful for your life. CHORUS 'Cause you'll wish you'd done the right thing then, before it was too late And yes, I know you've been so busy But you'll wish you could remember all the promises you made You'll wish you'd kept the friends you left behind Still you swear you'll do it all when you have time. Well, I have some news for you, my fellow fine, You've just run out of all that precious time. |
