There will be dancing © Copyright George Papavgeris, Apr 2004 There will be dancing, kissing and romancing There will be music and the fire bright will burn There will be singing, bells they will be ringing Just be there waiting on the quay when I return The boat is loaded to the gunnels with the harvest Tight as a fist they are, and bigger than a tree And with the biggest of them all this time I am blessed It took me more than half an hour to cut it free Already I can hear the sound of celebration As wives and mothers sons and husbands come to greet And as you're looking on full of anticipation I'll throw the biggest of the sponges at your feet. There will be dancing, kissing and romancing... The sun is setting now, the sponges shining yellow Gold of the sea will make us richer for a while The bottle's passing round and everyone is mellow And even on the captain's lips there is a smile Two boats behind us, you can hear the sound of wailing One diver waited far too long and got the bends And as their boat now like a coffin home is sailing The sound of mourning with the songs and laughter blends There will be dancing, kissing and romancing... And if you're waiting there for me, this thing I promise And pray my offer that you'll readily accept You'll be my Venus and I will be your Adonis (Antonis? little Greek pun here!) And this the last night on a boat I will have slept. There will be dancing, kissing and romancing... |
