Just you and me © Copyright George Papavgeris, Sep 2004 Now just you and me Thirty something years have passed by in the blinking of an eye Now the last one of our little birds is learning how to fly Soon will come the day when she will say good bye. Now just you and me And no longer will we look outside the window when she's late For a little while we 'll leave the room as is, then decorate And pretend that all this quiet is just great. Put the kettle on, make a cup of tea And cuddle up beside me, there is no-one here to see If you don't want talk, I will understand Let's sit together quietly and let me hold your hand. Now just you and me We will make the house all festive for our Christmasses alone To the hall we'll race each other to pick up the telephone And when we go out we'll leave the key outside under the stone Now just you and me We 'll have friends for dinner and we will not care about the noise And if they have children we will bring out boxes of old toys And our memories with looks we'll only speak, and not with voice Put the kettle on... Now just you and me The alarm will still go early though we could have stayed in bed And you'll potter in the kitchen while I potter in the shed And we'll talk about the last book that we read. Now just you and me Every day our faces marked by yet another little scar And we have to learn to love not what we were but who we are And I wonder if I still can be your star Put the kettle on... |
